The primary increase in export volume occurred during the first three months of the year, while the second quarter exhibited signs of stagnation. In the first quarter, Canada’s lumber exports to the United States expanded 8 percent year-on-year to 7.26 million m3. The value of exports grew 11 percent. The second quarter showed different dynamics. From April to June 2024, exports slipped 1 percent year-on-year to 7.46 million m3. The value of exports gained 3 percent.
Average prices of lumber fluctuated in the first half of the year, starting at $199 per m3 in January and ending at $196 per m3 in June.
From January to May, Canadian sawmills increased lumber production by 4.4 percent.
