Austria Softwood Lumber Exports Up

In the first five months, Austria exported 2.5 million m3 of softwood lumber (incl. planed timber) and thus 8 percent more than last year. Smaller volumes of lumber were sold to Germany and Slovenia, while marked increases were recorded in exports to Japan and Romania, reported from Global Wood Trade Network.

From January to May, Austria exported 730,000 m3 of glue-laminated and cross-laminated timber, recording a 2 percent increase compared to the same period of last year.

In the first five months, Austria saw its imports of softwood sawlogs decrease year on year. Increases in purchases from Slovenia or Croatia and Hungary (the latter two at a lower level in terms of volumes) were not sufficient to offset the negative development of imports from other countries.
