Man X Machine X Material is an exploration of the potential of AI in design and material choice by Jarrod Lim. Generative AI is a tool that will transform our lives - machines can process and transmit huge volumes of information at a speed far beyond the capabilities of humans. However, artificial intelligence remains very different from human intelligence.
Lim has experimented with human-computer interaction in his creation of Airstream table and Diffuse stools in American red oak. He has ‘collaborated’ with ChatGPT to explore the benefits and limitations of AI for a designer who works with a material so emotionally engaging as
American red oak.

In its third iteration, FIND is fast becoming an annual gathering for the region’s design community.
AHEC rounds up the month by presenting a panel discussion at the FIND. Entitled “Returning to Roots: The Essential Role of Wood in Our Built Future”, the discussion delves into all facets of wood, from sourcing and creative processes to innovation and future prospects. American hardwood, with its sustainability, durability and versatility properties, are playing a key role in the built environment of today and more importantly, tomorrow. Architects will be able to earn valuable CPD points by attending.
A lively discussion will be held amongst designer Adam Markowitz of Adam Markowitz Design, architect Hemanshu Parwani of Olson Kundig and wood expert Anna Meadows of Sycamore. It will be moderated by Wallpaper* Magazine China editor Yoko Choy.
