In the third quarter of 2024, 929,000 tonnes of wood pellets were produced in Germany. According to the German Pellet Institute (DEPI), the production volume is slightly below the previous year's figure of 983,000 tonnes. The reason for this is, on the one hand, that end users' warehouses are still well filled. On the other hand, fewer new plants have been put into operation. At 99.2 percent, quality class A1 remains the standard on the German pellet market.
At 29.4 percent, there are more bagged goods on the market than in the previous quarter (25.2%) and the same quarter last year. The share of sawmill by-products as a raw material basis has also increased above average to 92.2 percent. This is the highest value since the first quarter of 2022. The import share has decreased to 11.8 percent compared to the second quarter (17.4%). This is mainly due to a decline in sales to Italy.
